T-way cycleway re-alignment

---

Public exhibition now concluded

Public exhibition concluded on 5:00pm on Tuesday 31 August 2021. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.

In response to community feedback, the alignment of the path through the reserve adjacent to Toongabbie Creek was modified to have less impact on the park and maximise consolidated open space.

Outcomes of the consultation and a recommendation were reported to the Parramatta Traffic Committee in October 2021 and endorsed by Council.

Next steps

Transport for NSW announced funding for the Tway in November 2022 and construction is anticipated to commence early in 2023.

About the Project

The T-Way cycleway is a 30 km off-road shared path which runs from Windsor to Parramatta and is used by approximately 4,000 cyclists and 8,000 pedestrians a month.

The current alignment through Constitution Hill and Northmead includes three of the last four on-road sections: a slow 3-stage crossing of the Cumberland Highway; and a concentration of cyclist crashes along Briens Road.

A re-alignment of the T-Way cycleway is proposed that:

  • Separates cyclists and traffic
  • Separates cyclists and pedestrians where space allows
  • Uses a single-stage crossing of the Cumberland Highway
  • Directly connects to Toongabbie East Public School
  • Involves the building of a new bridge over Toongabbie Creek
  • Is less hilly and avoids commercial driveways
  • Connects into the new Milson Park path and a future eastern extension behind Westmead Hospital
