Council has been consulting directly with the Winston Hills Football Club and Cricket Association who are the sporting user groups of the facility to further develop the internal layout of the amenity building. Input received will be included in Council's review of community feedback.
Council consulted with the local community and sporting groups in June 2021 to help inform the brief for architects. This draft concept plan is the result of that process.
Council received 131 submissions and reviewed the community's comments and suggestions. Some of the suggestions that feature in the draft concept plan are: provision of more shelter for spectators, better seating, modern change room and toilet facilities for teams, and more storage. The roof top viewing platform also increases the available shelter and seating.
The site plan includes a new accessible walkway from the footpath on Romulus Street to the kiosk and team change rooms. A ramp also provides an accessible connection to the rooftop viewing platform.
An additional accessible pathway to access the bottom field is also under review.
Any removal of trees is subject to an Arborist report.
The existing facility does not provide public toilets, and the new facility will be future proofed to allow for this conversion.
The budget is just under $5.3m excluding GST. This includes $3.84m in funding provided by the NSW Government with the remainder provided by Council.
Following community consultation, Council's review of the feedback and the preparation of contracts, works are anticipated to commence in early 2025 with handover, ready for public use in 2026.
