Sydney Olympic Park Boundary Amendment

In late 2022, Council invited community feedback on a proposal to amend the suburb boundary of Wentworth Point to include the addresses of the Sanctuary development area and Jewel Residences (1 Burroway Road) which at the time were located in the suburb of Sydney Olympic Park.

Why did we put this proposal forward?

  • The ‘Sanctuary’ site is an outlying community isolated from the Sydney Olympic Park civic centre with a lack of community connection and support from other residents and services in Sydney Olympic Park.
  • The ‘Sanctuary’ site is physically adjacent to the retail hub of Wentworth Point at the northern tip of the peninsular and it has closer ties to the community of Wentworth Point than with Sydney Olympic Park.
  • The boundary amendment wouldprovide clarity of navigation, deliveries, wayfinding and emergency services response times for existing residents, and those that will eventually move into the new Sanctuary site.

Project update

The Geographic Names Board (GNB) consultation period for the proposed boundary amendment closed for public comment in May 2023 with no objections received.

The boundary adjustment was Gazetted (i.e. made law) on Friday 14 July 2023, and the Geographic Names Board will now update the NSW address database accordingly.

Council staff have developed supporting communications for the residents/occupiers/businesses impacted by this boundary amendment - click here to read.

The boundary change should start to be reflected in the NSW Address Database from Monday 17 July 2023 onwards.

"It makes perfect sense; Olympic Park community is centred around the station whereas this little enclave is more a part of Wentworth Point.” - Survey participant

Many of the responses opposed to the proposal were based on the need for green space; preserving the parklands and traffic management within Wentworth Point. All comments were reviewed by staff and provided to Council.
