Sydney Olympic Park Boundary Amendment

Frequently Asked Questions

In late 2020, Council received a request from Sekisui House (developer of the ‘Sanctuary’ site in Sydney Olympic Park), to amend the suburb boundary between Sydney Olympic Park and Wentworth Point to include the ‘Sanctuary’ development area.

On the 22 August 2022, City of Parramatta Council resolved to commence community consultation for a proposal to amend the suburb boundary of Wentworth Point to include the addresses of the Sanctuary Building precinct which was at the time located in the suburb of Sydney Olympic Park.

In addition:

  • The ‘Sanctuary’ site is an outlying community isolated from the Sydney Olympic Park civic centre with a lack of community connection and support from other residents and services in Sydney Olympic Park.
  • The ‘Sanctuary’ site is physically adjacent to the retail hub of Wentworth Point at the northern tip of the peninsular and it has closer ties to the community of Wentworth Point than with Sydney Olympic Park.
  • The boundary amendment will provide clarity of navigation, deliveries, wayfinding and emergency services response times for existing residents, and those that will eventually move into the new Sanctuary site.

The site is owned and managed by Sekisui House. This parcel of land does not fall under the responsibility of the Sydney Olympic Park Authority.

The results of the community consultation were presented back to Council to help inform a determination for formal referral of the boundary change request.

Council then submitted this request to the NSW Geographic Names Board (GNB) who is responsible for address locality name and boundary determination. The GNB Secretariat then reviewed against relevant policies and principles and prepared a report for consideration at a GNB Board meeting.

The GNB Secretariat then opened the proposal to the members of the public for comment with an advertising period of one month.

There are no anticipated implications for current residents of Wentworth Point.
