Strengthening the Heart of Play

Exciting upgrades are coming to a number of much-loved open spaces in North Parramatta with the City of Parramatta securing grant funding from the NSW Government.

Council is inviting the community to have their say on proposed improvements to Sherwin Park, Barton Park, PH Jeffery Reserve and Old Saleyards Reserve, which form part of the Heart of Play Network.

Creating a healthy and sustainable environment in North Parramatta, this project will allow Council to deliver a more connected sporting and recreation open space network and better meet the needs of the growing population over the next 20 years. The proposal will deliver the following improvements to all four parks:

  • Installation of new pedestrian lighting poles and bollards to improve safety
  • Provision of mature canopy trees and buffer planting to improve shade
  • Construction of shared circuit and connecting footpaths
  • Installation of new park furniture
  • Construction of three pedestrian crossings located at Isabella Street, Gladstone Street and Webb Street

In addition to the above works, the proposal seeks to deliver the following upgrades:

  • Barton Park and PH Jeffery Reserve: construct a new sportsgroundpavilion servicing both Barton Park and PH Jeffery Reserve
  • Barton Park: upgrade of the existing fitness equipment
  • PH Jeffery Reserve: formalise the existing carpark to maximise capacity
  • Sherwin Park: knock-down and rebuild on-site accessible amenities, extension of the existing community garden, installation of a BBQ and shelter area, and resurface the basketball court
  • Old Saleyards Reserve: install a new fitness station and remove the existing perimeter fencing, minor refurbishment of the amenities building and formalise the existing car park.

The $8.7m Strengthening the Heart of Play project is proudly funded by the NSW Government through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program.

The master-planned area is represented in the map, and includes:

  • Doyle Ground
  • Dan Mahoney Reserve
  • Barton Park
  • Old Saleyards Reserve
  • PH Jeffrey Reserve
  • Sherwin Park
  • Corry Court

The Master Plan will be used to guide upgrades and improvements over the next twenty years! You can find the Master Plan in the resources section of this page and read more about the consultation process by reading the frequently asked questions below.
