30-Minute CBD Parking Proposal

Thank you for your feedback. The public exhibition period closed at 5pm on Tuesday 18 October 2022.

Update

As a result of community feedback, Council will not be converting all one-hour timed parking spaces within the CBD.

Instead, the Council will be installing short term parking in the following locations only:

  1. George Street between O’Connell Street and Marsden Street – Convert approximately four ‘1P’ spaces on the north side of the road to ‘1/4P’ parking spaces (for more detail, see the sketch under the 'Sketch of new parking rules' section under 'Resources')
  2. George Street between Church Street and Smith Street – Convert approximately six ‘1/4P’ restrictions on the north side of the road to ‘1/2P’ restrictions (for more detail, see the sketch under the 'Sketch of new parking rules' section under 'Resources')
  3. Phillip Street between Church Street and Smith Street - Convert the existing ‘1P’ restrictions on both sides of the road to ‘1/2P’ restrictions (approximately 27 spaces) (for more detail, see the sketch under the 'Sketch of new parking rules' section under 'Resources')
  4. Macquarie Street between O’Connell Street to Church Street - Convert the existing ‘1P’ restrictions on both sides of the road to ‘1/2P’ restrictions (approximately 20 spaces) (for more detail, see the sketch under the 'Sketch of new parking rules' section under 'Resources')
  5. Hunter Street between O’Connell Street and Pitt Street - Convert approximately two ‘1P’ restrictions on both sides of the road to ‘1/4P’ restrictions (for more detail, see the sketch under the 'Sketch of new parking rules' section under 'Resources')

An overview of the proposed changes to parking can be viewed at the map below.

Council will now arrange for the new restrictions to be installed within the next 4-6 weeks.

Public Consultation

Thank you for having your say on the proposal! Submissions closed at 5pm on Tuesday, 18 October 2022.

City of Parramatta Council is proposing to convert the current signposted one-hour timed parking from 8am to 6pm on Monday to Friday within the Parramatta CBD to 30-minute timed parking. See the map below or under the resources section for locations where the 30-minute parking is proposed.

Purpose of the proposed parking changes

Council recently surveyed on-street parking within the Parramatta CBD and found that it is difficult for people to find parking in one-hour parking areas due to low vacancy rates. On-street parking within the CBD should be available for short-stay high-turnover parking, with long-stay parking better suited to off-street carparks.

By converting the signposted one-hour parking to 30-minute parking, it is expected that the turnover and availability of on-street parking will increase. It is also anticipated to better support the retail and commercial businesses in the CBD.

Please note that concessions associated with the Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) allow permit holders to park all day for free in an on-street parking space that has a signposted time limit of more than 30 minutes. Holders of a MPS Permit can however park in 30-minute spots for up to 2 hours, allowing them to attend appointments or to visit shops and restaurants.
