Community engagement

To support healthy communities and ensure access to quality play spaces, Council maintains approximately 150 playgrounds across the Parramatta Local Government Area. These range from large district playgrounds with diverse play structures to smaller local ones designed for young families.

Willmot Reserve in Toongabbie is a local playground tucked within a residential area on Willmot Avenue, just off Fitzwilliam Road. Though small, it offers valuable recreational space within walking distance for the local community, encouraging social interaction, outdoor play, physical activity, and confidence in children.

With a typical lifespan of around 20 years, the playground equipment is now due for renewal to ensure it remains safe and enjoyable.

Council invites the community to help shape the design of the playground replacement by sharing your experiences with the existing playground and ideas for the new one.

Next steps

Following the conclusion of stage one consultation, all feedback will be reviewed and used to inform the development of a draft concept design. This design will be placed on public exhibition (anticipated for September 2025)to provide a further opportunity for community feedback.

Each year a selection of playgrounds are included in Council’s annual Playground Replacement Program. Playgrounds are selected and identified from an annual playground safety audit report, informed by regular safety inspections of all playgrounds across City of Parramatta. A condition rating is calculated for each playground, which determines its priority within the Replacement Program. Willmot Reserve playground is a local playground catering to children aged 0 - 12 years old.

Parramatta City Council operates a network of play spaces designed for various age groups. Some of the large playgrounds feature equipment suitable for a wide age range, including teenagers. Below is a list of some of those playgrounds in the Parramatta Local Government Area.

When replacing and upgrading playgrounds, Council aims to improve accessibility where possible, focusing on elements which have been considered alongside the NSW Government’s Everyone Can Play framework and principles. These elements include providing accessible equipment, surfaces, seating with armrests and access to playgrounds via pathways.
