Robin Thomas and James Ruse Reserves Sporting and Recreation Facility Upgrades

Project Update - November 2024

The City of Parramatta is undertaking delivery of sporting and recreation facility upgrades at Robin Thomas and James Ruse Reserves in Parramatta.

The scope of works will include:

  • Upgrade to the existing sports field irrigation at Robin Thomas Reserve,
  • Minor levelling and installation of new sports field turf at Robin Thomas Reserve,
  • Installation of a new irrigation water tank on the southern side of the Hassall Street carpark at James Ruse Reserve,
  • Replacement of the synthetic cricket wicket in Robin Thomas Reserve,
  • Remediation of the fibro-affected soils identified in the area of the proposed irrigation water tank,
  • Preliminary works for a permanent public toilet facility within James Ruse Reserve (future works).

During works with fibro-affected soils, all appropriate safety controls will be in place, including air-quality monitoring, the establishment of exclusion zones as needed, and the use of personal protective equipment.

When are works occurring?

Construction work is scheduled to commence on 18 November 2024 and is expected to be completed in mid-May 2025. The sports field is expected to be re-opened in mid-August 2025 following a turf establishment period (all dates are subject to weather conditions).

Where are works occurring?

Works will be occurring in both Robin Thomas Reserve and James Ruse Reserve (approximate construction zones are shown below). Please note, not all construction areas will be closed for the full duration of the works.

The proposed work will also involve temporary closure of portions of the Hassall Street carpark as the water tank is installed. Further information will be provided on impacts to the carpark’s operation and construction zones as the work schedule is finalised.

Please be assured that every effort will be made to minimise disruption as a result of this work.

Proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with City of Parramatta Council.
