Proposed roundabout at the intersection of Thomas Street and Morton Street, Parramatta

Project background

As our cities grow, many high-density and frequently used areas are increasingly impacted by traffic congestion and conflicting vehicle movements as more people are using the space. The City of Parramatta has been listening to the community, noting reports of near misses and suggestions over the years. As a result, Council has identified several high-priority intersections that would benefit from additional traffic management measures to improve road safety, reduce conflict traffic flow and congestion.

One such location is the intersection of Thomas Street and Morton Street, Parramatta with traffic flow on both streets restricted by the existing road design. To address the issue, Council is proposing to install a roundabout at this intersection, as shown in the attached sketch. The proposal includes pedestrian refuge islands on all legs of the intersection and a ‘No Entry’ restriction to prevent vehicle access into the service lane from Morton Street.

The aim of this proposal is to enhance road safety by reducing vehicle speeds and minimising conflicting traffic movements.
