Rapanea Community Forest, Dundas Valley - Playground Replacement

Construction of the new playground

Construction of the new Rapanea Community Forest playground will commence in the week starting 18 May 2026 and is expected to take approximately three months, subject to weather conditions, with completion anticipated by late August – early September 2026.

The public exhibition period for this project closed at 5pm on Wednesday 26 November 2025.

Council maintains around 150 playgrounds across the Local Government Area, ranging from large district spaces to smaller neighbourhood parks. Rapanea Community Forest, found at the corner of Brand Street and McKillop Place in Dundas Valley, is a local playground set beside a remnant patch of Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest close to Ponds Creek. This spot is popular with residents, providing children with a fun place to play and families with an opportunity to come together. As the current equipment approaches the end of its 20-year lifespan, plans are underway to replace the playground to ensure it remains both safe and enjoyable for all.

In July and August 2025, Council gathered community feedback on the playground replacement proposal which has been used to inform development of the draft concept plan. In November 2025, Council presented the new playground design and invited the community to review and share any additional feedback before the construction work starts in 2026.
