City of Parramatta is constantly reviewing the events and activities that contribute to a lively city and connect our diverse community. As part of our work in creating a vibrant night time economy, with a wide variety of things to see and do, Council is considering holding a night market to encourage workers, visitors and residents to visit, stay and play in the CBD.
Council is considering four potential locations for the Parramatta night market. This community consultation sought to understand which venue people would prefer and why. Council put forward Centenary Square, Jubilee Park, Prince Alfred Square and areas along the Parramatta River as potential sites for a night market.
Council is considering trialling a night market for six months, potentially with a different theme each month. This community consultation sought to understand what types of markets would appeal most to residents, workers and visitors, and to determine the day of the week and time that our community would prefer a night market.
City of Parramatta hopes to create events that excite our community and bring colour and life to our streets. Following on from this consultation, Council will make a decision on testing the idea of a night market in the Parramatta CBD.
The community was asked to consider key features including potential themes, the type of stalls they would like, the location for the market and the day of the week and time a market should be held. Based on response from the community, Council may launch a six-month trial of a night market from early 2020 and/or begin community consultation around other twilight and evening events.
City of Parramatta is considering staging a series of night markets from early 2020. If you wish to register your interest in participating as a stallholder, please email the project team via parranightmarket@cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au or call (02) 9806 5050.
