The strategy aims to ensure our parks and recreational facilities meet the needs of our growing and diverse community. It will provide a clear evidence-based framework for decision-making regarding the provision and enhancement of open spaces in the context of population growth and increasing urban density.
The strategy will ensure that our parks and recreational facilities are well-equipped to meet the needs and behaviour of our growing community. It will help create a healthier, more active, and connected society by providing high-quality, accessible open spaces for everyone to enjoy
We are interested in understanding how you currently use our parks and recreational facilities, what you like about them, and what could be improved to encourage greater use. We also want to know about any barriers you face in accessing these spaces.
Community feedback is crucial because it helps us understand the needs and preferences of the people who use our parks and recreational facilities. Your input ensures that the strategy reflects the community's desires and addresses any issues effectively.
The feedback will be analysed and incorporated into the Needs Study and Technical Guidelines. This will help us identify current and future community needs, set benchmarks, and develop guidelines for the equitable and sustainable provision of open spaces and recreational facilities.
The strategy is intended to capture Council managed infrastructure available within our parks and open spaces. Indoor recreation spaces are generally large complex facilities and will require a future separate strategy to reflect their specialist requirements.
Council has adopted a Sportsground Strategy to guide our sporting field network. This strategy will work in partnership with the existing Sportsground Strategy to maximise recreational opportunities for the growing community.
The strategy will be based on the Needs Study and Technical Guidelines that are currently in-progress. A draft strategy is anticipated to be available in 2026.
