A median island is a raised strip or area in the middle of a roadway that separates lanes of traffic moving in opposite directions. It is used to manage traffic flow by limiting turns as well as to improve safety by preventing vehicle collisions from opposite directions.
Park Road, located south of Victoria Road in Rydalmere, serves as an access point for both residents and Aldi customers. The current road layout requires vehicles exiting Aldi to travel south; some drivers perform U-turns at Elenora Street despite existing double line restrictions, which can lead to safety and traffic concerns. To address this issue, Council is planning to install median islands and additional 'No U-turn' signage to deter such movements and improve overall safety.
The proposed installation will not result in any changes to the existing traffic flow.
The proposal does not result in any reduction of on-street parking spaces.
If there are no substantial objections to the proposal and it receives approvals from all relevant bodies, such as the Local Traffic Forum and Council, the construction work for this roundabout is expected to take place in mid-late 2026. You can FOLLOW this page for updates.
Park Road provides two northbound travel lanes near Elonera Street. The current road geometry does not support the installation of a roundabout at this intersection while maintaining the existing number of lanes, in accordance with Austroads Guidelines. Accordingly, it is not proposed to install a roundabout at the intersection of Park Road and Elonera Street, Rydalmere.
