Marri Badoo Reserve - Playground Replacement

To support healthy communities and ensure access to quality play spaces, Council maintains approximately 150 playgrounds across the Parramatta Local Government Area. These range from large district playgrounds with diverse play structures to smaller local ones designed for young families.

Marri Badoo Reserve in Rydalmere is a local playground nestled within a residential area on Christina Street, Rydalmere with the bushland of The Ponds and Subiaco Creek providing a natural backdrop. Though small, it offers valuable recreational space within walking distance for the local community, encouraging social interaction, outdoor play, physical activity, and confidence in children.

With a typical lifespan of around 20 years, the playground equipment is now due for renewal to ensure the playground remains safe and enjoyable.

Possible playground relocation

Replacing the playground also provides an opportunity to reconsider its location to improve accessibility and safety for the community. The current site on Christina Street presents several challenges, including the lack of a proper access path and potential issues with achieving an accessible gradient (slope), if a path is constructed. Additionally, the existing location has limited passive surveillance, which can increase the risk of accidents and anti-social behaviour going unnoticed.

Current location: End of Christina Street, Rydalmere

Proposed location - Option one: End of Elm Place, Rydalmere

Proposed location - Option two: Corner of Kirby Street and Pine Street, Rydalmere

Stage one consultation - Now closed

In mid-2025, Council invited the community to help shape the design of the playground replacement and future location in the stage one consultation which closed at 5pm on Wednesday 16 July 2025.

Next steps

Following the conclusion of stage one consultation, all feedback will be reviewed and used to inform the development of a draft concept design. This design will be placed on public exhibition (anticipated for September 2025) to provide a further opportunity for community feedback.
