Over two stages of community engagement, Council wants to work with you to deliver a fun new play space at Jenkins Street Reserve in Dundas!

Located on 26A Jenkins Street in Dundas, the playground is tucked in behind the Silverwater Road sound barrier and although the address is Dundas, it is closer to the Bartlett Street local shopping centre in Ermington. This secluded local playground is presently targeted to pre-school aged children (0–5 years) and juniors (6-12 years) and has ‘skill based’ play type elements.

The City of Parramatta Community Infrastructure Strategy recommends that upgrades to local playgrounds in the Dundas area should cater to both pre-schoolers (aged 0-5) and juniors (aged 6-12), as well as increase the ‘natural’, ‘sensory’ and ‘imaginative’ play type elements. Along with community feedback, these recommendations will help guide what the playground upgrade will include.

Voting for your preferred playground equipment has now ended!

During the stage one community engagement, Council determined how the local community currently uses the playground at Jenkins Street Reserve and also developed an understanding of what the community wants to see delivered as part of the upgrade.

Based on your feedback and site requirements, Council developed three (3) options for the new play equipment. In order to progress to a concept design, we sought the community's feedback to decide which play equipment the community would prefer! The consultation closed at 5pm on Wednesday 27 October 2021.

Swipe through the three (3) options below to view and read more about what they include before scrolling down to vote on your preferred play equipment!

Next steps

Council staff will review all community engagement feedback thoroughly and use this to inform the development of a draft concept plan in coming months. This draft plan will be made available to the community for further feedback.

Frequently asked questions

The playground is being replaced under the City of Parramatta Playground Replacement Program as it has reached the end of its functional life and must be upgraded to meet Australian standards for playground safety.

Yes - This playground has been allocated additional funding to build a shade sail.

This playground does not require fencing due to its location at a safe distance from Jenkins Street, which is a quiet street, and there is a full 'acoustic barrier' high concrete fence to Silverwater Road traffic.

At this stage, the playground upgrade should not require the removal of any trees.

No water play is planned for this playground as it is only to be installed in specially considered locations and is too expensive to install and maintain under a local playground budget.

No trampolines or flying foxes are planned for this playground as these items are too expensive to be funded under a local playground budget.

Outdoor exercise equipment is not designed for children and cannot be included in playgrounds. The budget has been specifically allocated to upgrade the playground and does not allow for additional items in the park.

Yes, the playground will include at least two new seats with backrests.

Jenkins Street Reserve already has a bin and this will be upgraded if necessary. A bubbler will be considered, dependent on the cost of connecting it to water mains.

The play surface around the play equipment will be made from a coloured porous rubber.
