The Integrated Transport Strategy will provide a clear, concise policy statement of Council’s strategic transport objectives, covering all modes of travel.
Key components of this Strategy will include:
- Articulation of Council’s vision and policy objectives for transport;
- Identification of key transport facilities and services needed for our community;
- Prioritisation and phasing of actions to meet these objectives.
The Integrated Transport Strategy (ITS) is being undertaken in two (2) stages:
- Integrated Transport Study (first stage) – will review current and future transport and travel patterns, and synthesise these investigations with community feedback to identify expected shortfalls in infrastructure and services. It will recommend directions for Council’s transport vision, policies, advocacy and delivery.
- Integrated Transport Strategy (second stage) – will build on the study to serve as a clear statement of Council’s vision and objectives for transport. It will include identification of the key transport facilities and services needed, and indicate prioritisation and phasing of actions.
The feedback provided in this consultation will be used initially to inform the Integrated Transport Study and will be retained to inform development of the Integrated Transport Strategy.
Drafts of both the Study and Strategy will be publicly exhibited before being considered for adoption by Council.
Yes, Council is also conducting the below investigations as part of this work.
- Planning with Country – consulting with First Nations community members to inform inclusion and/or application of cultural knowledge in the study and strategy.
- Safer Streets and Places – investigating needs for safer streets and places in and around key centres, station precincts and schools.
The Integrated Transport Study and Strategy will consider all modes of transport, including:
- Active transport – like walking, cycling and micromobility (such as e-bike and e-scooters);
- Public transport – like trains, metro, light rail, high speed rail, ferries and buses;
- Road transport – including roads, freight, traffic and parking for cars and motorcycles.
The Integrated Transport Study will apply to the entire City of Parramatta Local Government Area (LGA). It will be primarily focused on transport that can be accessed within the city and our neighbourhoods, but it will have view of origins and destinations beyond the LGA. For example, it must consider how residents get to jobs and other destinations outside the LGA and how visitors get to the LGA.
Financial support for the first stage of the Strategy, the Integrated Transport Study, is being provided by Transport for NSW. Council is collaborating with Transport for NSW as a key stakeholder to the Integrated Transport Strategy.
