Hughes Avenue Reserve - Playground Replacement

Project overview

To support healthy communities and ensure access to quality play spaces, Council maintains approximately 150 playgrounds across the Parramatta Local Government Area. These range from large district playgrounds with diverse play structures to smaller local ones designed for young families.

Hughes Avenue Reserve in Ermington is one such local playground, located opposite the new Melrose Park precinct on Hughes Avenue. Though small, it offers valuable recreational space within walking distance for the local community, encouraging social interaction, outdoor play, physical activity, and confidence in children.

With a typical lifespan of around 20 years, the playground equipment is now due for renewal to ensure it remains safe and enjoyable.

Stage one consultation - Now closed

In mid-2025, Council invited the community to help shape the design of the playground replacement in the stage one consultation which closed at 5pm on Wednesday 16 July 2025.

Next steps

Following the conclusion of stage one consultation, all feedback will be reviewed and used to inform the development of a draft concept design. This design will be placed on public exhibition (anticipated for September 2025) to provide a further opportunity for community feedback.
