Gibbons Street Shops

Frequently Asked Questions

Council is supportive of outdoor dining as it brings more vibrancy and liveliness to a centre, as well as provide passive surveillance. Council has been working with Queens Cup to upgrade the outdoor dining space so that the space is more inviting and accessible.

Unfortunately the types of shops at a centre is subject to market forces. Council has no control over this.

The upgrades planned for Gibbons Street shops include:

  • Improve the overall aesthetic of the centre by installing new granite pavements, new bench seating, new tree(s)
  • Improve the outdoor dining experience by creating two accessible outdoor dining areas
  • Improve pedestrian access to the shops through a new disabled parking space with new kerb ramp and shared area outside 3 Gibbons Street
  • Improved pedestrian safety through providing safer access between the parked vehicles and the shop fronts
  • Improve pedestrian safety by modifying the car park to comply with Australian Standards.
  • Encourage economic activation by converting the car parking to the front of the shops to 2 hour parking
  • An EV charging station, subject to funding availability

Council has a long running annual neighbourhood centres upgrade program called the Better Neighbourhood Program (BNP). The program funds improvements to commercial and retail centres outside of the Parramatta CBD. Gibbons Street Shops was chosen as part of the program mainly because it was some years since the centre was last upgraded.
