Sketch of the revitilised laneway
Public domain upgrade and laneway activation to enhance vibrancy and support retail and night-time economy.
Council acknowledges there are issues with traffic flow and parking. This is considered a large scale projects and would exceed the funding available through the Better Neighbourhoods Program. Council is actively working on a solution for this issue.
Council has $300,000 allocated under the Better Neighbourhoods program
The Better Neighbourhood Program (BNP) is a long-running and successful Council program that focuses on the capital upgrades of local centres outside of the Parramatta CBD. The BNP commenced in 1999 and delivers improvements to centres with the goal of enhancing safety, vitality and economic prosperity.
Between 2011 and 2019, Council invested $11,761,333 in BNP projects, which consisted primarily of:
A total of $3,200,000 has been allocated to the BNP over the next two financial years across all wards. This includes $400,000 distributed amongst all wards in FY 2021/22 and $2,800,000 for all wards in FY 2022/23.
The funding allocation is larger in the second year to allow for detailed design and construction processes to be completed in FY 2022/23.
The budget allocated is very small and will bring life back to the laneway. The cost to upgrade traffic-flow and parking will exceed any allocation under the Better Neighbourhood Program and has not been included in this project scope.
