Alfred Street Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridge

FAQS

The bridge main span is above the 1 in 100 year flood level, and is designed to withstand flood loading.

The project is funded by the City of Parramatta and the NSW Government.

NSW Government grants through the Housing Acceleration Fund, the Active Transport Program, and NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program will enable safe and accessible walking and cycling and greater connections to recreation corridors for our community.

The permanent closure of Alfred Street, north of River Road West in Rosehill will have limited impact on surrounding streets and properties, directly affecting access to just one property.

The permanent closure of Alfred Street, north of River Road West in Rosehill will result in the loss of approximately 7 on-street parking spaces on the eastern side of Alfred Street.

Parramatta River will be accessible either side of Alfred Street, however the foreshore directly in front of Alfred Street, and Alfred Street itself (north of River Road West) will be closed during construction of the bridge and pedestrian plaza.

The bridge has been designed to be higher than the lowest downstream bridge (at James Ruse Drive).

Ferry passengers will have already descended from the upper deck before passing under the bridge.

The project will result in some environmental impacts, however the project is subject of a Review of Environmental Factors that was exhibited in 2017 and appropriate mitigation measures have been identified.

Construction of the project will include appropriate management plans to ensure impacts to the surrounding area is minimised.
