Council's Affordable Rental Housing Action Plan 2023 (AHAP) is a strategic document that sets out key actions and positions in relation to affordable housing for 2 years, from mid-2023 to mid-2025.
One of the actions in the AHAP is to update Council’s Affordable Rental Housing Policy in year 1 of the Action Plan, meaning by mid-2024.
The Affordable Housing Action Plan (AHAP) covers strategic, policy, and advocacy matters, as well as future actions.
The Policy focuses strictly on operational issues that apply to affordable rental properties under Council’s ownership. This includes managing Council’s affordable rental housing and setting out the mechanisms for Council to acquire additional affordable rental housing.
The policy’s objectives are to:
- Effectively manage Council’s approach to the ARH properties it owns; and
- Increase Council’s contribution to ARH, primarily via Planning Agreements.
At time of writing, Council is in possession of eight affordable rental housing dwellings, all of which are tenanted.
An additional 49 are expected to be acquired via the Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) pipeline, most of which are located in Melrose Park.
