Bungaree Road Shops Toongabbie

In February 2020, we asked the community to let us know what the key issues are which you face in using the centre day to day, and what would make it a more enjoyable place to spend time.

• Over 100 people, ranging from business owners, to property owners and local residents who use Bungaree Road shops had their say about potential upgrades.
• Overall, while it was clear that there was much love for these local shops, it was also evident that there was a desire for some improvements to take place and make Bungaree Road shops even more useful and attractive to the community.

Following on from stage one engagement, Council developed a draft concept plan for the proposed upgrades at Bungaree Road Shops. In March 2021, we checked in with the community to make sure that the plan reflected your previous feedback.

Some of the proposed upgrades outlined in the draft concept plan, included:

• Small tree planting with mulching
• New seating and bins
• 90 degree angled parking with wheel stops
• A disabled car space with kerb ramp to improve pedestrian access
• New granite paving
• New bike rack

The stage two community engagement feedback period closed at 9am on Thursday 25 March 2021.

The Better Neighbourhood Program (BNP) is a long-running and successful Council program that focuses on the capital upgrades of local centres outside of the Parramatta CBD. The BNP commenced in 1999 and delivers improvements to centres with the goal of enhancing safety, vitality and economic prosperity.

Between 2011 and 2019, Council invested $11,761,333 in BNP projects, which consisted primarily of:

• Capital upgrades to local, town and neighbourhood centres.
• Connecting Centres projects to improve access to local centres and neighbourhoods.
• Complementary public domain improvements.

A total of $3,200,000 has been allocated to the BNP over the 2019/20 and 2020/21 financial years. This includes $620,000 in FY 2019/20 and $2,580,000 in FY 2020/21. The funding allocation is larger in the second year to allow for detailed design and construction processes to be completed in FY 2020/21.
