We’re reimagining Riverside Theatres, and we want YOU to be part of this incredible journey!
Imagine a space where the best in Australian and international performances, cutting-edge design, and a thriving local arts scene come together. A place that not only showcases world-class talent but also celebrates the creativity and diversity of our community.
Our proposed design respects Parramatta’s rich cultural heritage, thoughtfully integrating contemporary architecture with elements that honour the area’s historical significance, creating a harmonious blend of past and present.

Lyric Theatre
The Lyric Theatre is proposed to be a stunning 1,500-seat ‘Broadway style theatre that redefines the live performance experience with its state-of-the-art acoustics and technical capabilities. The auditorium features thoughtfully calculated seat widths and row spacing to ensure exceptional sightlines from every corner. With its stalls, a singular dress circle, and two levels of side balconies, the Lyric Theatre guarantees remarkable proximity to the stage, allowing audiences to feel a genuine connection to the performance, all while enjoying an unparalleled viewing experience and comfort.

Playhouse Theatre
The much-loved Riverside Playhouse Theatre has been beautifully preserved, with the surrounding structures around the stage, main stalls, and gallery seating transformed to forge new connections within this dynamic performance space. The redesign prioritises enhanced accessibility and clarity of circulation, ensuring that all patrons can navigate the theatre with ease and comfort.

Black Box Drama Theatre
Riverside’s new 341-seat Drama Theatre is a state-of-the-art black box venue designed for ultimate flexibility, catering to theatre, dance, and live music. Featuring fully retractable seating, high-spec lighting and sound, and versatile staging options, it supports innovative productions and immersive audience experiences. With advanced acoustics and cutting-edge AV, it’s a premier space for contemporary performance and creative exploration.

The Studio Cinema – A Dynamic Hub for Creativity & Events
Riverside’s new Studio Cinema is a cutting-edge, multi-purpose venue designed for film, performance, and premium events. With 116 seats—including 102 retractable for maximum flexibility—this intimate, ground-floor space effortlessly transforms from a boutique cinema to a rehearsal studio, event hub, or live performance stage. A retractable acoustic wall reveals stunning floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river, making it a breathtaking function space for receptions, corporate events, and special gatherings.

Reinventing Parramatta’s Riverfront – A Vibrant New Destination
We’re transforming Parramatta’s riverfront into a dynamic, connected, and inspiring public space. A seamless pedestrian and cycle-friendly pathway will link the Lennox Bridge underpass to the Marsden Bridge underpass, making the river more accessible than ever. At its heart is the Casuarina Clearing — a beautifully designed, naturalised space that invites visitors to pause, connect with Country and soak in the river’s energy. Whether it’s an impromptu performance, a quiet moment of reflection, or a lively social meet-up, this revitalised riverfront will be a thriving cultural and recreational hub for all to enjoy.
Riverside Bar & Café – Parramatta’s Hottest New Hangout
From morning espresso by the water to late-night cocktails under the stars, Riverside Bar & Café will be the ultimate all-day destination. Start your day with artisan coffee and fresh pastries, grab a casual lunch by the river, or unwind with signature cocktails and share plates as the sun sets. Elevated above the riverside cycleway, this vibrant spot will be Parramatta’s coolest post-show gathering place, perfect for pre-theatre drinks, social occasions, and late-night conversations with a view.
