It is the City of Parramatta’s 10-year cultural strategy, providing a cohesive vision for arts, cultural and creative practice and participation in our City. The purpose of this strategy is to:
- provide a consolidated and integrated vision for the community, cultural sectors, partners and Council
- identify opportunities for investment and acknowledgement of Parramatta as a recognised global cultural leader
- articulate, map and celebrate existing cultural activity in the City of Parramatta.
Parramatta supports its creative community through various resources and programs. Council-run arts initiatives, such as Parramatta Artists Studios and the National Theatre of Parramatta, play a key role in fostering the arts and community engagement. The city’s dedication to the literary and performance arts is evident in initiatives like the Parramatta Laureate in Literature and the Council-run Riverside Theatres. Further, the City of Parramatta supports and celebrates arts and culture through the Cultural Grants program, strategic sponsorships and partnerships as well as programming across Council venues such as Phive.
We have met with key stakeholders from the local arts and cultural community and also invited the broader community to share their ideas on how the City of Parramatta can support and celebrate its unique culture. We have gathered information to inform and inspire the vision, objectives, actions and priority projects included in the draft strategy. During the Public Exhibition period, the community have a further opportunity to provide feedback.
The draft strategy provides a whole-of-LGA vision for arts and culture in the City of Parramatta, with feedback from LGA-wide consultation directly influencing the strategy. The strategy outlines our community’s aspirations and key opportunities to celebrate the dynamic, unique and energetic cultural life across all of City of Parramatta’s wards.
The previous Cultural Strategy was called Culture and our City: A cultural plan for Parramatta’s CBD 2017-2022
Feedback which translated into actions in the last Cultural Strategy included community support for the redevelopment of the Riverside Theatres, and establishing creative hubs, and incubation spaces throughout the city.
